If you will be landing at an airport most of the time, it may make more sense to consider a land-based aircraft with normal landing gear. With a panoramic canopy, a low instrument panel and the aircraft's propeller behind you, flying the ICON A5 may feel more like driving a car than flying an airplane.

ICON advertises a host of safety features including a spin-resistant airframe, Angle of Attack Indicator (AoA), ICON parachute system (IPS), and low stall speed for the category. In terms of size, the Bearhawk 5 is 2 inches wider than the four-place model, as well as having a cabin 14 inches longer;
it's 2 feet longer overall than the four-place, which allows for a potential fifth and sixth seats in the rear of the cabin or a massive amount of baggage capacity. Bearhawk Aircraft points out that the Model 5 has a larger interior than the venerated Cessna 185.
Floating the idea of an amphibious aircraft? Today, pilots aspiring to land on runways and water have more options than ever. Not long after the introduction of the FAA's newest aviation category—the light sport aircraft or LSA—in September 2004 came the birth of LSA seaplanes.

"Truly, there is no one in the world, except Bob himself, more qualified to have built this prototype than Collin," Goldberg says.

For more than six decades, Minnesota-based Wipaire has been designing, engineering, and manufacturing a full spectrum of floats for dozens of aircraft from the Piper Cub to the de Havilland Twin Otter. It is the only LSA seaplane that's manufactured in the United States that also holds certification in China.
According to the SeaRey website, there are now more than 700 SeaRey kit-built and certified aircraft that have been delivered worldwide. Completed aircraft and kits are produced at the Progressive Aerodyne facility in Tavares, Florida. With its aerodynamic airframe meaning it requires a lot less horsepower to achieve takeoff and cruise speeds, the Celera 500L is powered by the RED A03 engine.
It has a liquid-cooled V12 twin six-cylinder bank and, says Otto Aviation, offers best-in-class efficiency. It's certified to operate on Jet A1 and biodiesel. Onex Sonny Wow, Xenos Motorglider Model I Model II Model III Classic IV

Otto Aviation says on its website that 31 successful test flights have so far been performed, with aerodynamic efficiency proven in 2019, bolstering its declaration that "the Celera 500L is the most fuel-efficient, commercially viable aircraft in existence."
"Our goal has always been to create a safe and private aircraft that would allow for direct flights in the US at speeds and costs comparable to commercial air travel," company CEO Bill Otto Jr. tells CNN Travel.

Wipaire's line of Wipline floats is considered the gold standard in fixed and amphibious float modifications. Aircraft owners should always consider the effects on performance and useful load. Some aircraft may require a ballast to remain in the envelope, and may not be able to take full fuel even with one pilot.

The Carbon Cub EX kit with floats has approximately 700 lbs in useful load with a significantly greater max gross weight of 1,865 lbs. While still in the early phases of flight test, Bearhawk Aircraft expects the Model 5 to cruise around 160 mph with the most powerful Lycoming variant or an 82-inch Hartzell constant-speed prop.
Other six-cylinder versions of the Lycoming will work on the 5, all the way down to the 250-hp O-540. The company is looking to validate the planned 3000-lb max-gross weight. If it does and the 1512-lb empty weight holds, the Bearhawk 5 will be able to carry more than its own weight in payload.
Progressive Aerodyne has a three-decade history in the amphibious and experimental aircraft market, and it has one of the largest groups of seaplane owner enthusiasts. Progressive Aerodyne manufactures two models of SeaRey S-LSA seaplanes: the Adventure and the Elite.
Bearhawk Aircraft, best known for its two- and four-place utility homebuilts, will offer a new, larger model called the Bearhawk 5. According to the company, the 5, penned by noted designer and engineer Bob Barrows, "made its first flight
on May 3rd. The prototype has flown more than 5 hours in testing and is exhibiting excellent flight characteristics, according to test pilot Rollie van Dorn. Further flight testing is expected to confirm the airplane's projected 3,000-lb gross weight.”
Where the other Bearhawk models use smaller, four-cylinder engines, the Bearhawk 5 has a “spec-built” six-cylinder, 315-hp Lycoming IO-580 on the nose. The first Bearhawk Model 5 was built in collaboration with avid Bearhawk builder Collin Campbell of Bolivar, Missouri.
